GOLD DIGGERS

Dismantling & metal-extraction workshop for Pixelache 2014.

Recycling event at Cable factory (Kierrätystehdas) 26.4.2014

Concept: Mia Makela (Delegaatio)
Teacher: Albert Laine in co-operation with Trashlab/Pixelache and Eetti

Gold digging could be a way to earn some income. It could also be development work. Instead of leaving electronic trash on a derive to the global south, we can dismantle it here. At the ‘Gold diggers’ workshop participants mined old computers in search of valuable metals.
The workshop programme included an introduction to the techniques of dismantling and metal-extraction by Albert Laine, videomaterial related to e-waste and documentation from a field trip to Kuusakoski recycling center and discussion with Anna Härri from Eetti who talked about the electronic trash in faraway waste lands at 14:30.

Night of the Beamers is a night full of projections on the surfaces of Helsinki. Everyone can participate from their own home: join us with your own video projections, shadow theatre or a rhythmic light show. All you need is a video or slide projector, your own personal magic lantern or even a flashlight. Project on the streets, to the wall of a house, trees in the park or your own window. You can even use a moving vehicle. You may also do it inside and invite an audience. Remember to be cautious. Do not reflect any light directly through your neighbor’s window and remember not to play sounds too loud!
